Discussion Day 1
1. Why are you taking this course right now?
After 18 years in USMC Logistics, I’ve spent my career managing complex, high-stakes supply chains. As I prepare for my transition to the civilian sector this December, I want to formalize that experience. Taking Lean Six Sigma now allows me to bridge the gap between military operational planning and corporate process improvement. It’s about ensuring I have a standardized, data-driven language to solve efficiency gaps in a corporate environment, just as I’ve done in the Fleet Marine Force.
2. What outcome do you want in the next 3-6 months?
My immediate goal is to complete my certification and apply the "DMAIC" framework to a tangible project. Within the next six months, I want to be able to demonstrate a clear "before and after'"case study—specifically showing how I can reduce waste or lead times in a supply chain setting. Ultimately, I want this certification to serve as a cornerstone of my candidacy for Supply Chain or Project Management roles, proving that I can translate my military discipline into measurable ROI for a civilian employer.
3. Who does this impact besides you?
On a professional level, it impacts my future team and organization. On a personal level, this impacts my family. This transition is a shared journey with my wife, and securing a leadership role in a stable industry like retail logistics or global operations ensures a smooth "landing" for us in this next chapter.
